Dear Parent/s,
Summer fun is right around the corner! We would like to remind you of a resource that you may want to use during the summer to help your student remain ready for next school year’s educational growth. The Johns Hopkins University's Center for Summer Learning Web site weighs in with this view: "Summer 'slide' is another consequence of unstructured summers. The 'slide' means that students tend to score lower on tests of achievement at the end of the summer than they did on the same tests before summer break." One of the easiest ways to encourage some “fun educational time” is to use the home computer. On a site that your student has access to by using their KanEd login and password, we have saved in the school bookmarks some links to websites that many of our teachers in the District have used and recommend. There are links to science sites, reading sites, current events and math sites- to include a fun site with flash cards! Who does not need practice on multiplication? 4 Kids is also a great place for your student to click in to and find lots of engaging and educational games. Note there is even World Book on line.

Happy Summer!
